The art gallery in Kavarna was opened on November 5th, 1981.

The building was built in the period 1909 – 1910 and it had been a secondary school till the Romanian occupation of Dobrudzha. In the period 1916 – 1940 the building served the needs of a Romanian school, and from 1941 to 1980 it had different roles as a secondary school, a high school, a technical school, then again as a secondary school, and finally – as a nursery school.

The gallery’s fund comprises 569 fine works: paintings, printings, and small plastic works. The art gallery had organized 120 expositions with funds of the National Art Gallery, the Sofia City Art Gallery, and the art galleries of the cities of Shumen, Burgas, Sliven, Dobrich, Kyustendil, Varna, tens of collective and individual exhibitions of different artists from all over Bulgaria. 14 international exhibitions have also been organized with the cooperation of Germany, Poland, and China.
